A Review of Star Trek

Star Trek is back!

At least this is what I can say about this franchise in light of the rave reviews and the recent success at the box office which blew everything else from the past out of the water.

Yesterday I finally watched Star Trek (2009) and I feel I need to write everything regarding this movie and mainly my personal history with this franchise to simply and finally get everything out of my head – especially regarding my hate for one special series.

Be prepared for a long post that deals with the series of Star Trek.

I just came back from my voyage to a world full of 3D animated figures posing as humans and monsters. After some thought I can say that I liked it, nothing more, nothing less. It was nice movie but nothing I would kill for or watch again – which is really sad because it blew so many chances.

Monsters vs. Aliens (MvA), dear writers, had the chance to really gain some land against the gods called Pixar and do some extremely funny and stylish stuff but unfortunately the result fails in some ways too often.

Is it just me, or is the number of sequels rising constantly?

I know, I am the first one writing that money has to be made and a movie production is risky. Just some posts ago (which feels like ten years in real time) I stated that sequels are a wise investment decision. Yet it is getting out of hand, isn’t it?

To Disney

by Gunther Heinrich, 16 Mar 2009 in The Movie & Me

Oh, Disney, what happened to you? Did you never learn from the past or grew up?

I know that after many decades you have your style you want to retain no matter what. I know you have your image of a company producing fairy tales and other kid-friendly stuff, and I know you want to stick to that. But, well, you seem so out of touch than never before.

Why Sequels are a Wise Investment decision

by Gunther Heinrich, 21 Feb 2009 in The Movie & Me

Sequels seem to be a curse of the movie industry. Each time a movie is really successful you can count on it that the producers will at least think of doing a sequel. And we also can count on another thing, which is bad quality or at least a worse level of quality compared to its predecessor.

But did we haters ever think of the producers? Admittedly, no. But from their perspective, a sequel might be their wisest decision in a long time.
