Why the Director’s Cut of Aliens Sucks

by Gunther Heinrich, 25 Apr 2010 in The Movie & Me

Let me get one thing straight from the beginning:

I love Aliens.

I think it is one of the best Sci-Fi Action movies ever made and one of the best movies of James Cameron before he started getting bad with scripts but even better with effects.

Aliens has great pacing, great suspense and hell a lot of great action. The sound effects for those awesome machine guns alone is fantastic. And on top it all Aliens is on par with Alien although they couldn’t be more different in terms of their respective feeling.

The Director’s Cut of Aliens is whole different story here.

My Review of Avatar

by Gunther Heinrich, 22 Jan 2010 in Reviews

I finally gave up. After all of my friends nagged me to watch James Cameron’s Avatar I finally let my rejection flow away and go to my cinema of choice.

Since everyone is praising Avatar as the new holy grail of movies I will take my time here and rip this thing to shreds talk about my humble impressions and why some elements just don’t live up to the hype. (Be aware of spoilers (see flag on the left of the title) and length of post)

3D cinema is a hype worth nothing

by Gunther Heinrich, 4 Sep 2008 in The Movie & Me

Cinema is not truth 24 times a second, it is lies 24 times a second.

And James Cameron believes that by filming a lie in 3D it will become less a lie. Because we will be immerged into the scene. Because there is physical presence. Because there won’t be any cardboard sets anymore. Because the textural reality will support the narrative moment. And because we then will start to believe that what we see is real.

I’m sorry, but this is utter bullshit.

What we see and hear from James Cameron and everyone else is the same technical mumbo jumbo thinking George Lucas has shown in his latest abysmal Star wars installments – that by technical gimmicks the movie (and the story driving it) could be improved. Funnily enough James Cameron later
