My Review of Avatar

by Gunther Heinrich, 22 Jan 2010 in Reviews

I finally gave up. After all of my friends nagged me to watch James Cameron’s Avatar I finally let my rejection flow away and go to my cinema of choice.

Since everyone is praising Avatar as the new holy grail of movies I will take my time here and rip this thing to shreds talk about my humble impressions and why some elements just don’t live up to the hype. (Be aware of spoilers (see flag on the left of the title) and length of post)

A Review of Star Trek

by Gunther Heinrich, 14 May 2009 in Reviews The Movie & Me

Star Trek is back!

At least this is what I can say about this franchise in light of the rave reviews and the recent success at the box office which blew everything else from the past out of the water.

Yesterday I finally watched Star Trek (2009) and I feel I need to write everything regarding this movie and mainly my personal history with this franchise to simply and finally get everything out of my head – especially regarding my hate for one special series.

Be prepared for a long post that deals with the series of Star Trek.

Fooly Cooly

Wwell, I can count the occasions on one hand when I sit there, robbed of all my thoughts and words because of the awesomeness I just have witnessed. Thanks to Fooly Cooly, the counter went up by 1.

The Last Post

…of 2008.

You didn’t think I would stop now, would you?

Well, the year 2008 was quite interesting and sad at the same time. All the different Top Lists popping up everywhere remind me that another year has passed. But what a year it was.

OK, first things first:  Thank you Dreamworks! After a long time in history of the Mighty 3D this is one of the first 3D animated movies not from Pixar that doesn’t put out an obvious pop culture reference each and every minute (although there must have been a ton of Kung Fu movie references). And I don’t miss any of it. Instead the guys at Dreamworks tried to tell a story of a panda who wants to kick ass in big fights full of action and heroism as the dream sequence at the beginning establishes. That’s okay to me.
