You are crouching in the smallest crack possible, hiding from the horror that lives in these caves – and which you escaped only barely. Suddenly a noise only feet away! You hold your breath, you don’t move an inch. There it is. The creature living down here and searching for its prey. You can barely see it in the darkness. Slowly it comes closer to your position. Suddenly a harsh light pierces through the darkness! It is your friend searching for you. The eyes of the creature are now glued on your friend. And your friend instantly fell silent, seemingly shocked by the horror in front of him. What now?
I had the idea for this underground creature when I looked at some photos of deep sea fishes. “Why not simply moving this thing out of the water?” I thought. What you see below is the result of this idea.
I started with a very basic standard head model and worked on it until it resembled my vision quite closely. Afterward I added a basic body and changed it, too. Then I moved everything into my digital sculpting tool and refined everything. The same applies to the background.
Post production was bigger this time, again, placing everything in separate layers while adding many more to finalize the image.
